PORT HARCOURT—A LECTURER in the faculty of law of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST, Joseph Barifaa Pango, has been found dead in the boot of his car a day after he was reportedly kidnapped around Barobara in Tai Local Government area of Rivers State.
The new Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Akin Fakorede, SP, confirmed the development to the Vanguard yesterday. He could not say anything on the likely cause of the death.
Meantime, the late Pango was taken hostage at about 9.00 pm on Tuesday in Tai by some persons who allegedly shot sporadically to ward off any resistance. His lifeless body was later discovered in the boot of his car at a spot between Tai where he was kidnapped at Oyigbo, precisely on Afam_Ukwu road.
Some persons feared the death could be politically motivated because the late Pango had allegedly indicated interest to contest for the Chairmanship seat of Gokana local government area in the state.
At press time, the police said it had intensified effort to track down those behind the death of the aspirant and lecturer.
