President Goodluck Jonathan has commiserated with Mr. John Odey, Minister of Environment, on the death of his mother, Madam Martina Ogar Odey.
In a condolence message to Odey, Jonathan noted that “even though Mama lived to the grand age of 86, I knew that her passing on will still be a source of great grief to you and the rest of the family.
You can, however, be consoled by the fact that her life must have been further enriched by the success which you have made of your own life.”
He prayed that Almighty God gives succour to him and grants him the strength to cope with the irremediable loss.
Governor Liyel Imoke on behalf of his family, the government and people of Cross River State, expressed his heartfelt condolences to Odey, saying that her exit, even at the respectable age of 86, would certainly remain a sad and painful experience for him and the entire family, moreso because, as she has over the years, become a pillar of strength, whose presence alone, was both reassuring and refreshing.
According to Imoke, “all the same, we urge you to be consoled by the many legacies she has left behind, principal among which must be, her nurturing into responsible adulthood of your dear self and your other siblings.”
Adding that “it is in this regard that our prayers unite in wishing her humble soul, eternal rest and everlasting peace in the bossom of the Almighty”.
He prayed the Almighty equally grant him and other family members, the strength and fortitude to bear this sad but inescapable experience.
Mr. Efiok Cobham, Deputy Governor of Cross River State, said he and his family received with shock, the news of the demise of his mother, stating that one can appreciate the pain and anguish he must be going through at the loss of someone so close and dear as a mother as the memory of the joy and loves he shared remain freshly in one’s memory.
According to Cobham, Bible enjoins that in all things, one should give thanks to God and “Let us therefore look beyond the pains of Mama’s demise and thank God for the favour and for a fruitful and fulfilled life she led on earth”.
He charged them, as they celebrate Mama’s life and death, to emulate all the virtues she bequeathed to them while praying that the good Lord will comfort them and grant the soul of late Mama peaceful repose in his bossom.
Others who sent condolences include Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, National Chairman PDP, Ntufam Ekpo A. Okon, State Chairman PDP, Senator Ndoma_Egba, Deputy Senate Leader and Senator Bassey Ewa_Henshaw.
