Super Falcons chief coach, Eucharia Uche says the team’s target is to win the Africa Women’s champions (AWC) for the sixth time despite some challenges they encountered during the preparations towards this event slated for South Africa.
Before the Falcons departure, Eucharia told Vanguard sports that despite the cancellation of the team’s training tour to Namibia for acclimatization to South Africa’s weather, they will win the trophy “What we are looking forward to is how to bring back the cup to our country. Since the commencement of the AWC, Nigeria has always been the champions but it was only two years ago that it was won by Equatorial Guinea.
The former Super Falcons player stressed that the non release of the trio of Faith Ikidi , Cynthia Uwak and Sarah Michael from their clubs to take part in this year’s edition of the championship will not affect the team because players who are good enough to face any tough challenge have replaced them.
“I would have loved to have the trio for the biennial championship. But due to their clubs selfish attitude , i have been able to fill their spaces and i am confident that the players will not let the country down”.
Eucharia further hinted that no team would be taken for granted because the Super Falcons have always been the team to beat stressing that there is no team in the Falcons’ group that have not been defeated by Nigeria except Tanzania that is a first timer in this championship.
