Samson Siasia, one of the short_listed candidates for the Eagles’ plum job was the cynosure of all eyes; especially among young football enthusiasts from Tudun Wada, Kaduna during the Charity Cup final won by Enyimba FC after defeating Kaduna United FC at the Old Parade Ground.
The Kaduna United players had dominated the encounter, but fluffed their chances thus dragging the game into penalty shoot_out they lost 4_2 before the scanty football enthusiasts that included the Kaduna deputy governor, Ramalan Yero and a few executive committee members of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Barely five minutes into the encounter, the fans that were beating drums and cheering their team suddenly stopped when they noticed Siasia and gathered round him chanting in support for his candidacy for the Super Eagles’ job.
The fans would however not let Siasia go until he posed for a group photograph with them.
“Yes, this is a confirmation that we really saw him (Siasia) in Abuja ”, some of the cheering youths said.
The youths chanting support for Siasia for the Eagles’ job said they were happy with the way the former Under_20 team, the Flying Eagles as well as the Olympic Team coach had handled the teams, and he should be handed the Eagles’ job without delay.
“I’m in support of Samson Siasia taking over as the Super Eagles’ Chief Coach. He is our choice. We the youths from Tudun Wada, Kaduna would pray for him to succeed as the substantive coach”, Awal Bello, one of the Tudun Wada youths from Kaduna said.
Siasia said afterwards that the Eagles’ job was not a do_or_die affair.
“If I’m given the Eagles’ job I would do my best to bring the team out of the woods”, he said.
