ENUGU—Arising from the misunderstanding among few politicians and some members of the public in Enugu State, Governor Sullivan Chime has stated that there was never a time or place he said incumbent political office holders in the state should be returned as automatic candidates of their different constituencies.
Governor Chime, who spoke through one of his 2011 campaign managers, Mr Joe Mmamel, said the clarification had become important in view of insinuations making the rounds, especially since the recent misunderstanding in the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mmamel also stated that the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, had not demanded for control of the entire structure of Enugu North Senatorial zone (Nsukka zone) as being rumoured by certain members of the public.
He added that Governor Chime and his supporters were equally not thinking about abandoning the PDP for any other political party to actualize the governor’s bid for re-election come 2011 general elections.
His words: “I want you to quote me that the governor never said that people should come back by way of automatic tickets. What the governor said was that he has no problem with the people, with the situation, the way he sees it today.
“The problem is that people want the governor to say he doesn’t want a particular person to come back for a third or fourth term but it is not for the governor to say who comes back for a second or third time because the governor does not vote in those constituencies.”
