Something big is about to happen in Asaba, home of Ibori Golf and Country Club. The last time Captain Daniel Mayuku celebrated his birthday, he brought Asaba to a standstill. With few weeks to yet another historic birthday celebration, friends, golfers and colleagues of the avid golfer cum politician are planning big for the one they call DOM 8.
Although Mayuku is still keeping plans for the celebration under wrap, a close friend revealed that the event will be marked with a major Pro-Am golf tournament which would feature the best professional and amateur golfers in the country.
Asaba has the lure for both amateurs and pro golfers alike but the catch here is the style and razzmatazz that usually follows the celebration of any event organised by Mayuku.
The legislator is a crowd puller, anyone who graced his traditional wedding in Warri and the last birthday in Asaba will attest to the this fact.
According to an insider, the party train will move from the tournament venue to a hotel where the celebration will climax. Mayuku is known for is style and one can guess that the Orchid Hotel in Asaba will likely play host to the night party that will bring the celebration to to an end.
Since emerging as captain the Isekiri prince has single-handedly sponsored tournaments and is no doubt the moving spirit behind IGCC.
He championed the redesigning of the course and today the sprawling 18 holes golf facility is one of the most challenging golf courses in the country. His reason was that he wanted a course that will compete favourably with some of the best in the country and to a large extend, the chairman Finance and Appropriation Committee in the Delta State House of Assembly has met some of his dreams for the club.
