Auto crash kills 8 in Bauchi

BAUCHI—Eight persons were, yesterday, confirmed dead, while seven have been hospitalised with various degrees of injuries from an accident that occurred along Bauchi-Jos road, Monday.

The accident involved a tanker with number plate XA 744 FKY belonging to ALMA’U Ventures which was traveling from Bauchi to Jos and a 14-seater bus with number plate XB 203 MSA said to have left Abuja Monday morning for Bauchi.

Mallam Zaradeen Babayo, who saw how the accident occurred, told Vanguard at the scene of the fatal accident, “the driver of the tanker lost control of his tanker,  veered off his lane and ran into the on-coming bus.”

Zaradeen, who said the accident occurred between 1pm and 2pm, said the driver of the bus tried to control his bus after been hit by the tanker but eventually veered off the road and somersaulted before the bus went into flames.

The accident which occurred at Hakayafi village, 13 kilometers from Bauchi, claimed seven lives on the spot.

When Vanguard visited the accident scene, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police were picking up severed limbs and heads of the victims into their vehicles.
