2011: NULGE cautions ANSIEC, politicians

By Enyim Enyim

ONITSHA— Ahead of the 4 December 2010 local government election in Anambra State, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees ,NULGE, yesterday cautioned Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, and politicians against any form of electoral fraud during the exercise.

Speaking exclusively to Vanguard, state chairman of NULGE, Mr Jerry Nnubia, said what the people of the state, particularly the union, wanted was the conduct of a free, fair and credible election, considering the fact that local government election had not been held since 2002.

He said it was about time politicians in the state eschewed violence, rigging, thuggery and other forms of electoral malpractices that could further heat up the system, saying the state had had enough of political crisis.

“ It is a welcome development that Governor Peter Obi has decided to conduct the council election and it is equally a healthy development that the newly constituted ANSIEC has rolled out its election time table and guidelines for the scheduled 4 December local government election,” he said.
