This afternoon is an important one in the hearts of Nigerians as by 3 p.m. the Super Eagles will be filing out in an all important World Cup opener against the Argentina at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg.
The game is crucial as it will go a long way to determine how far the team, Swede coach Lars Lagerback took over three months ago, will go in the tournament.
Speaking to Ex-Super Eagles defender, Edema Fuludu, he said that “the team can hold Argentina to standstill or even beat them, depending on how the coach motivates them.â€
In his words, “every body is expecting the Argentines to beat us in line with there present form and players, but they forgot that we have their profile and they have ours too. So, they will be the ones on the edge while we will be relaxed with our game, which will give us an upper hand to fight for a point or a win.â€
He said that the team’s preparation was poor and as a result lacked depth, stressing that so much attention has been paid to the Argentine game, forgetting the ones against former European Champions, Greece and Asian fast machine – South Korea.
Commenting on the team’s defense, he said that “Yobo has dropped form while Danny Shettu did not play a single game for Bolton Wanderers last season.
