NSE share value rises further by N47bn

The upswing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) continued, Thursday, as the value of listed equities appreciated by N47.22 billion.

In particular, equities value represented by the market capitalisation and the All share index both appreciated by 0.75 per cent each.  The capitalisation closed at N6.303 trillion from N6.255 trillion at which it opened, the index rose by 194.12 point to close at 25,913.44 trillion from 25,719.32 trillion at which it opened.

Cadbury Nigeria Plc recorded the most share price gain, rising by N1.30 to close at N27.40 per share, followed by Benue Cement Company Nigeria Plc with a gain of N1.06 to close at N66.06 per share and Oando Oil Plc rose by N0.82 to close at N79.00 per share.

Other share price gainers include: Ashaka Cement Plc N0.66, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc N0.61, Nigeria bottling Company Plc N0.50, Nigerian Breweries Plc N0.49, First City Monument Bank Plc N0.40, May and Baker Nigeria Plc N0.30, United Bank for Africa Plc N0.30, among others.

On the contrary, Lafarge Cement WAPCO Plc recorded the most share price loss dropping by N0.49 to close at N40.50 per share, Unity Kapital Plc followed with a loss of N0.02 to close at N0.53 per share and Unilever Nigeria Plc dipped by N0.14 to close at N24.00 per share.

Other share price losers include: UAC Nigeria Plc N57, Presco Plc N32, Nigerian Wire and Cables Plc N0.01, Nampak Nigeria Plc N0.25, Ikeja Hotel Plc N0.10, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc N0.58, Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc N0.09, among other.

Equities trading appreciated further by 10.32 per cent, as a turnover of 397.84 million shares valued at N3.66 billion was recorded in 7,077 deals in contrast to the previous day’s turnover of 360.61 million shares valued at N416 billion in  7,063 deals.

The banking sub-sector dominated trading activities on the sectorial analysis accounting 66.25 per cent of the market turnover with 263.57 million shares valued at N2.38 billion in 3,663 deals.

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc was the most active in the sub-sector trading 42.84 million shares valued at N746.78 million in 647 deals, Zenith Bank Plc followed with exchange of 42.84 million shares valued at N566.45 million in 475 deals and Oceanic Bank International Plc recorded 30.70 million shares valued at N51.71 million in 376 deals.

The Insurance sub-sector recorded 12.35 per cent of the market turnover with 49..14 million shares valued at N60.25 million in 323 deals.

Universal Insurance Company Plc recorded the highest transaction in the sub-sector trading 17.00 million shares valued at N8.50 million in 3 deals, Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc followed with the exchange of 8.72 million shares valued at N32.21 in 31 deals and Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc exchanged 5.10 million shares valued at N2.55 million in 31 deals.
