FOLLOWING its effort in ensuring a cleaner environmnet throgh the usage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to power automobiles Nipco Plc, a major player in the nations downstream petroleum sector has recorded a major milestone as it wins an award for promoting environment friendly fuel.

The award which was the brainchild of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in its conscious effort to promote greenery in industrial environment is one of the highlight of this year’s World Environment Day inline with the United Nations declaration setting aside June 5 every year for drawing people’s attention to the issue of safe and habitable environment.
Presenting the award to the company,  Permanent Secretary, Lagos state Ministry of Environment in Dr. Titi Anibaba who represented the Commissioner, Dr. Muiz Banire, said the recognition is a mark of enviable efforts of Nipco in making our environment safe through its plethora of initiatives.

She singled out among others, its pioneering effort in the area of cleaner  fuel for household  cooking,  powering of auto mobiles as well as machines.

According to her, the state government recognizes the efforts of companies that assist in the upkeep of the environment and will always be ready to shower encomium on them to serve as incentive to do more.

LASEPA General Manager, Engr. Ademola Shabi said the agency had over the years watched with admiration the giant stride of the company and it was not a difficult assignment for them to pick the organization for the award.

He pointed out that the award which is going to be a yearly event is targeted at making organization be alive to their responsibility especially in the area of good housekeeping.

Engr. Shabi recalled that the agency had last year constituted a committee to go round industries in the state to with a view to ascertaining their level of responsiveness in the realm of good habitat.

He said the award is the culmination of the committee assignments and the recipients were based on their score  during the assessment which lasted over four weeks.
