Shell facility on fire in Ogoni

SHELL has confirmed  a fire outbreak on its Trans Niger Delta pipeline in Ogoni area of Rivers state.
Spokesman of the Anglo Dutch oil giant, Mr Precious Okolobo said effort were on at press time to completely put out the fire. According to him, the oil giant immediately mobilised fire fighters to the scene as soon as it got report of the incident.

He said the firm also used Helicopters to assess the situation. He said the affected pipeline conveys crude to Bonny terminal, Bonny Island in Rivers state.

Continuing, he said investigation on  the cause of the fire would commence today (Saturday). Already, sources told the Vanguard that a Joint Investigation team had been set up with members drawn from Shell, Department of Petroleum Resources and the Rivers state Ministry of Environment.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports said some communities were severely affected by spill from the pipelines. The sources listed some of the communities as Bera, B Dere, and Bodo West etc.
