Jonathan opens e-Nigeria summit today

ABUJA— PRESIDENT Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is expected to deliver the opening address at the e-Nigeria 2010 Conference which opens today in, Abuja, organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA.

Also expected at the three-day event are the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr Steve Oronsaye and the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Mr Jim Ovia.

With the theme, National ICT4D Plan and Global ePayment Adoption Ranking: Implication for Vision 20-2020, no less than 500 participants from both private and public sectors at the three-tiers of government in Nigeria and the international community are expected at the event begins today through Thursday.

President Jonathan’s opening address will be preceded by a welcome address to be given by Professor M.K. Abubakar, Minister of Science & Technology, followed by another address to be given by chairman of NITDA’s governing board, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye.

International contributions at the opening ceremony include a keynote address on “An overview of Nigerian ICT4D Plan, to be given by Professor Clement Dzidonu, President of Accra Institute of Technology, Accra Ghana. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is also part of the event, as a goodwill message will be delivered by UNECA’s Director of ICT and Technology, Addis Ababa.
