9 killed in auto crash

PORT HARCOURT— NINE persons lost their lives yesterday at Onne area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State,  when the driver of an SUV lost control and rammed into a make shift canteen by the roadside,  killing six females and three males on the spot.

Confirming the development to Vanguard, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Rita Abbey, said three others who sustained severe injuries were rushed to a trauma centre in Port Harcourt. According to the Police spokesperson, the driver of the vehicle fled in his car after the incident.

“An Infinity Jeep, black in colour, driven from Onne swerved off the road and hit people sitting in a make shift canteen. Six females and three males died while four males were taken to Teme clinic by the Police. The driver escaped while police patrol vehicles are on his trail.  Investigation is in progress,” she said.
