Imo ANPP flays sale of LG polls’ forms

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Imo State chapter of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, has condemned the direct sale of nomination forms to local government chairmanship and councillorship aspirants by the State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC.

The position of ANPP was communicated to ISIEC Chairman, Mr. Emma Nwaonye, in a letter, captioned “ANPP’s observations on your recent pronouncements on the proposed local government elections in Imo State,” by the State chairman, Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe.

“ANPP Imo State condemns the sale of nomination forms by ISIEC directly to aspirants for chairmanship and councillorship elections. ISIEC should limit itself to sale of forms to candidates as presented by political parties,” Ajumbe said.

The party appealed to the electoral umpire to make available to all the political parties in the state, copies of the relevant laws under which the proposed elections will be conducted.

While expressing misgivings over the composition of the Commission, Ajumbe urged ISIEC to give a comprehensive timetable for the conduct of the election to political parties to enable them organise their primaries and other processes.

“We believe that the above observations will guide you appropriately to avoid voter apathy and political parties’ resistance,” the Imo ANPP boss advised.
