Bomb explosion in Maiduguri injures two

MAIDUGURI— A BOMB exploded at the Wulari Police Barracks Mummy Market in Maiduguri, yesterday, while activities at the market were at the peak.
Two people were severely injured in the blast.
Vanguard gathered that the bomb exploded in a shop within the market where it blew off the roof and caused the fun seekers to run for dear life.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Isa Azare said that the victims were treated and later discharged.

Azare said after the explosion, the officer in charged of the area alerted his commander who later called the attention of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdu.

He said the commissioner immediately dispatched bomb disposal squad to the scene.

Azare noted that what exploded was a military bomb weighing 92 kilogrammes, adding that experts had collected samples from the debris for proper analysis, while policemen were still investigating the reason behind the explosion.

In a related development, fire has claimed two lives in Abuja Talakawa ward in Maiduguri.

The PPRO said the fire incident occurred as a result of faulty generating set, adding that the family of four were rushed to the hospital where the two children died from severe burns.
