ABUJA—The Speaker of the House of Representatives is to re-appoint the headship of its standing committees before the end of April, 2010, just as the House has begun a three-week Easter break. The recess ends on the 20th of April, 2010.
Deputy speaker, Rep. Usman Bayero Nafada who announced this during the House sitting yesterday, also directed the management of the National Assembly to start using the electronic voting machine, which has not been in use since 1999. The machine is to be reactivated in preparation to the beginning of the consideration of the report of its committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution.
Nafada, who presided over the plenary called on members of the selection committee of the House to prepare their minds while on break, as they may be recalled at any moment to reconvene for the purpose of filling up vacancies in the various standing committees of the House.
The Selection committee is led by the speaker with all principal officers as members.
“I want to let members of the Selection committee to know that their attention will be needed during the recess because we have to reconstitute the committees in which there are vacancies. You will likely break your recess for this purpose so, please take noteâ€, he stated.
