By Ndahi Marama

MAIDUGURI — THE Borno State government has distributed school materials worth N1.3 billion to 85 secondary schools across the state. Items distributed were 21,730 double desks worth N269m, 924,000 assorted textbooks worth N771m, science equipment and chemicals worth N182m and 10,000 mattresses worth N37.5m.
Distributing the materials to the schools at a ceremony at the Ramat Square, Maiduguri, Governor Ali Modu Sheriff advised teachers and students to take proper care of the materials, pointing out that the motive behind this gesture was in line with the cardinal objectives of the state government towards educational transformation by ensuring conducive teaching and learning environment to both staff and students across the state.

The governor while inspecting the educational materials directed all the school principals to collect their allocations and transport fares as directed and made sure the materials were collected intact without diversion, adding that any discrepancy should be reported directly to his office for proper action.

Sheriff who recalled the ugly trend in the past, particularly the illegal diversion of teaching  materials meant for public schools in the state, warned that this time around any person found wanting would be severely dealt with.
