Strike: AC flays Daniel …says govt is insensitive to education

By Kolade Larewaju

ABEOKUTA – THE Action Congress, AC,  in Ogun State has berated the state government for the on-going strike by primary school teachers in the state, saying that it demonstrated insensitivity on the part of government about the plight of the pupils and their parents.

The party in a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sola Lawal said although the councils shoulder the responsibility for the payment, they were incapacitated by several illegal deductions from their accounts by the state government.

He said, “although councils in the state shoulder the responsibility to pay teachers’ salary, they have been rendered incapacitated by the state government which illegally deducts money from the allocation to the councils.

Even before the present crisis, each of the 20 councils in the state had been groaning of pecuniary insufficiency brought upon them by the Daniel’s administration that has virtually turned the state into personal financial fiefdom.

“Our party cannot but align with the position of the Chairman, Ijebu East Local Government, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye, an elected top operative of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in his position that councils in the state cannot pay the enhanced salary structure because of illegal deductions by the state government”.
