Police foil robbery attack

Enugu—The Enugu Police Command has aborted a highway robbery on the Enugu-Nsukka Road, its Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, has said. Amaraizu told newsmen in Enugu that members of the anti-robbery squad received a tip-off on the incident and stormed the place.

“In the process, they cut off the robbers from carrying out their act,” he said. He said information got to the police that some hoodlums blocked the Nsukka route in order to rob motorists which prompted the command to release  a truck load of men of the anti-robbery squad to counter them.

The PPRO said that when the team got to the location, the robbers ran into the bush. He said that no causality was recorded, adding that the command was yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.

Amaraizu said the command had since increased its patrol on the Nsukka Road to check the excesses o
f the hoodlums.The hoodlums cash in on the bad spots on the Enugu-Nsukka route to regularly unleash attacks on motorists.

Amaraizu said that the quick intervention of the police punctured the operations of the hoodlums.

“The constant robbery incidents have become worrisome. Recently, we arrested some of them on the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway but we are contending with the others,”  he said.
