NFF contacts Shehata for Eagles’ job

Egyptian media has claimed that Nigeria are interested in signing on ‘loan’ Egypt’s coach Hassan Shehata to lead Eagles to the World Cup in June.

Egyptian television station, Modern Sports, reported that Nigeria Football Federation president Sanni Lulu  made contact with his Egyptian counterparts for coach Shehata to be in charge of the Eagles only for the World Cup in South Africa.

“Nigeria have expressed an interest in hiring me to take charge of their team during the World Cup,” the 60-year-old Shehata was quoted as saying by Modern Sport.

“It would be a great honour for me to work at the World Cup. However, the Egyptian FA will have the final word on whether I could work with Nigeria on a temporary basis.”

Modern Sports claimed: “The contact was three days ago, but we didn’t run the story because this could have upset the team ahead of their Nations Cup final against Ghana.”The no-nonsense Shehata has led the Pharaohs to three successive Nations Cup titles, in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
