APC unveils back UPS for desktop computers

LEADING player in critical power and cooling services,  APC by Schneider Electric has announced the release of the Back-UPS RS 500 battery backup.

This unit,  according to APC  provides desktop computer users with up to 28 minutes of run time depending on load – enough to work through short power outages and to save their work and shut down their computer systems during extended outages.

“There are three outlets on the rear panel that provide both battery backup as well as protection from damaging electrical surges and spikes that can destroy both data and computer hardware.

A premier feature of the Back-UPS 500 is “boost automatic voltage regulation” (Boost AVR), which corrects low utility voltages without draining the battery, saving battery power for power outages and extending overall battery life’ APC said in a statement.

Additional features, the hardware provider said, include audio/visual (LED) status indicators, automatic diagnostic testing, push button circuit breakers and a two year warranty on all parts and labour, including the battery.

“APC’s new Back-UPS RS 500 is currently available through distribution channels in Africa and will certainly be one of the most cost effective battery backup UPSes on the market today,”  Paolo Miglietta, regional channel manager: Africa, Indian Ocean Islands, and South Caribbean at APC by Schneider Electric, said in a statement.
