ONITSHA—The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe has called on the Federal and Anambra State governments to assist medium scale industries in the state to ensure their continued existence in the face of the present global economic crunch.

Igwe Achebe made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit on Krisoral Group of companies in Onitsha.
Speaking after he was conducted round the different units of the company, the monarch said he was over joyed by the activities of the firm when many other industries have folded up because they could no longer break even in the face of the economic down turn.

“We are very proud of you. As we drove through Atani Road, we saw a lot of industries abandoned or closed. In Aba and Nnewi, you find the same story and it is quite a challenge.”
He charged the management of the company to continue to work hard, so that they could get to the top, saying
“we hope that with time, the challenges will disappear”.

The royal father,  who wondered why Governor Peter Obi had not visited the firm in his four years in office,  promised to appeal to him to visit the place in order to assist them,  especially in the area of the erosion that was threatening the place.

Speaking, the Managing Director of the company, Chief Oranu Chidume listed some of the problems militating against the smooth running of industries in the South Eastern part of the country to include infrastructure, security, electricity, road, erosion and transportation.
