Imo Speaker tasks oil communities on peace

By  Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Goodluck Opiah, has enjoined oil producing communities in the state to refrain from acts that could jeopardize the efforts of the federal and state governments to improve their living conditions.

Chief Opiah gave the advice on his working visit of Awarra community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

“The amnesty programme of the Federal Government and the initiatives of Governor Ikedi Ohakim to transform the lives of people in oil producing areas would be extended to Awarra community,” Opiah said.

The Speaker noted that the violence that rocked the community, which led to unnecessary loss of precious human lives and property, was regrettable.

“Such self-destructive tendencies are inimical to the growth and development of both the people and the community. This community cannot afford that costly luxury,” the Speaker cautioned.
