FRSC impounds 263 vehicles in Enugu

Enugu—MISTER Hyginus Fuomsuk, Enugu Sector Commander of the  Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has said that 450 traffic offenders were arrested between 18 December and 10 January this year.
He said that no fewer than 263 vehicles were impounded for various offences within the  period.

In an interview in Enugu yesterday, Fuomsuk said the offenders committed 477 offences, ranging  from flouting of traffic signs, non-use of seat belts as well as non use of crash helmets by motorcyclists.

The Sector Commander said that 142 persons were arraigned at mobile courts at Nsukka, 9th Mile Corner and the Naira Triangle in Enugu.

He said that only one offender was discharged and acquitted while others were fined.

“During the period under review, 16 road accidents were recorded, involving 24 vehicles, comprising 13 private cars and 11 commercial vehicles.

“Also 150 persons were involved in mishaps, five were killed, 64 injured and some others did not sustain injuries,” he said.

He identified break failure, lane violations and over- speeding as major causes of accidents.
