FG adopts new tax policy

ABUJA—The Federal Executive Council, FEC, yesterday adopted the Draft National Tax Policy for implementation with effect from 1 January 2010.

The Minister of State for Information and Communications, Alhaji Aliyu Bilbis, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council meeting yesterday. Vice President Goodluck Jonathan presided over the meeting.

Bilbis said Council adopted the policy “having noted that it would enhance government revenue from non-oil tax”.

He said Council also approved N219.20 million for the direct purchase of 41 Toyota and Peugeot vehicles for the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.

Bilbis explained that Council gave approval for the purchase of the vehicles to enable NEMA to discharge its mandate effectively.

“FEC also approved N4.20 billion for the purchase of 39,655 million litres of Low Pour Fuel, LPF, Oil for the Egbin Electric Power Plc,” he said.
