WARRI— BARELY 12 hours after President Umaru Yar’Adua proclaimed amnesty for militants in the Niger_Delta on Thursday, the Movement for Emancipation of the Niger_Delta (MEND) blew up a well head (jacket B) of the Shell Afremo off_shore oil field in Delta State, claiming its action was in response to the razing down of the homes of some perceived militants at Agbeti community in the state by the Joint Task Force (JTF) on the Niger_Delta, earlier that day.

AS Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the United Nations Day Against Illicit Drug Trafficking and Abuse on Friday June 26, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade has said that Nigeria is winning the war against illicit trafficking in hard drugs.

Few days after President Umaru Yar’Adua proclaimed amnesty for Niger Delta militants who deem it fit to surrender
their arms and embrace peace, there have been different opinions on the government initiative towards bringing
lasting peace to the volatile region.

PORT HARCOURT — The foursome of Ateke Tom, Farah Dagogo, Soboma George and Ebikabowei Victor Ben (aka Boyloaf) say they would only surrender their arms after a meeting with President Shehu Musa Yar Adua where they intend to raise some grey areas bothering on the amnesty granted militants in the region.

The spate of kidnaping in Edo state has remained unabated in the past few months. About thirty persons have been kidnaped and freed in the last two months and several millions of naira was paid to their captors. Majority of the victims are bankers but because of the safety of these victims ,the matter is treated quietly.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), few weeks ago, treated Nigerians to a rude shock.
That was when the anti-graft agency bundled the Chairman of Senate Committee on Power, Senator Nicholas Ugbane, his counterpart in the House of Representatives , Ndudi Elumelu and eight others before an Abuja high court sitting at Gudu for trial.
