Nigerian, Israeli trade volume hits $500m

ABUJA — THE Israeli Government Ambassador, Moshe Ram, disclosed yesterday that the volume of trade between Nigeria and his country for 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 stands at $500 million favouring the latter, just as he stressed that the exportation of goods by Nigerians to Israel remains very negligible and low.

Ram who reiterated on his country’s stand on non issuance of resident permit to Nigerians ready to make his country a place to live in, stressed that Israel could only guarantee extended visa duration, adding that in as much as his country was not prepared to increase relationship with Nigeria, its policy of not allowing foreigners to live there remains.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, yesterday on the forthcoming International Economic Conference to be organised by the Nigeria-Israeli Business Forum (NIBF) September 8, the envoy explained that the restriction was not applicable to Nigerians alone.
