Rep donates to indigent persons

UGHELLI—THE member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Solomon Ahwinawhi, has donated 75 motorcycles and 120 sewing machines to 195 indigent persons in the constituency.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries at Agbarho, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, Chief Ahwinawhi said the gesture was part of his efforts to alleviate poverty in the constituency, adding that it was his desire to make the people of the constituency self-sufficient and self-reliant.

He said:  “I have sponsored a Bill  on coastal and land erosion control, which has been consolidated with two other similar Bills and has gone through the second reading.

“This is because I am aware that a good portion of my constituency is riverine and is faced with flood and erosion problems.

“My good people of this constituency, in the days ahead, I want to assure you all that I will step up my legislative work and put in the experience I have acquired as your representative over the years to attract more projects and federal presence to this constituency.   This will be evident in the 2010 national budget that is currently before the National Assembly.

“I also intend to do more of this empowerment programmes in the nearest future. I, therefore, use this opportunity to urge the beneficiaries of today to put whatever they have received to good use to uplift their well being, while at the same time pleading with those who are not accommodated now to be patient for the next batch that will be coming up soon.

“I shall be more interactive and consultative in my approach in the days ahead. In this respect, my formal constituency briefing will be coming up very soon, my constituency visits shall become more frequent and regular, while my constituency office located at Ughelli is fully empowered to attend to your requests and needs”.

The lawmaker  said he had been able to attract to the constituency two motorised water projects Opke Olomu as well as another water project to Agbarho in Ughelli North and South local government areas respectively.

He also spoke of completing a block of three classroom block, with toilet and hand pump at Ovwian Primary School, amongst others.
