Two first half strikes by Shoyomfao Temitope and  striker Lawal Mutiu helped XI Strikers FC Of Amuwo Odofin LGA to a 3 – 1 victory over Changer Babes of Ojo LGA to lift the cup in the final of the second annual late Telia U-17 Memorial Cup Soccer Championship decided Monday inside the Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, before a sparsely attended audience.

The match was fought with great guts. XI Strikers third goal came in the 64th  minute through Lawal Mutiu against the run of play. With three goals down, the Changer Babes were undaunted as they launched a whirlwind of attacks on their opponents and netted their only goal of the match through Razaq Azeez, one minute from full time.

The Chief hostess Mrs. Modupe Tella, wife of the late Golden Eaglets coach,  took the kick off.

In their post match comments, the team manager of XI Strikers, Saturday Okon. thanked God for the victory. “Before the match I knew that we were going to win because we did not rest on our oars ”, he stated.

But the Coach of the opposing team Sunday Blessing Ayedu had a different view about the outcome of the match. “I am very surprised about the defeat because all the teams that we met before the final stage were stronger than the XI Strikers”, he lamented.

In another development, Morning Stars of Ojo LGA Coach Uche Nduka accused the organizers of not keeping good records of the goal scorers. “My ward Chubuike Okereke scored the highest goals in the competition but he was not given the prize,” he contended.
