THE  Goats and Rams Sellers Association of Nigeria (GORASAN) has appealed to  Lagos State government to intervene in the trouble brewing between the association and the management of Alaba Rago ram market.

Chairman of the association, Alhaji Raimi Alao Dauda, at the weekend,  alleged that the Iba Local Council Development Area, in connivance with the leadership of Alaba Rago ram market, recently imposed a N50 levy on any live ram sold at the market, an action he claimed  contradicts the laid down rule that the association must be informed adequately before any levy is introduced.

Dauda said:”It is not the business of any local government to collect levy on livestock; it is against the revenue law of Lagos State, it is solely the responsibility of the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives’ livestock section.”
