Former Eagles coach Christian Chukwu and former player Emeka Ezeugo have stated clearly that Sunday’s match in Abuja against the Mambas of Mozambique is a must win game as no excuses would be accepted in the end.
Chukwu, who was relieved of his job as coach of Rangers at the end of the 2008/2009 season, said the Eagles need nothing less than a win in their quest to qualify for the World Cup. According to him, anything short of that will total disaster and will automatically bring an end to the already shattered dream.
“Whether there is hope or not, what I know is that Sunday’s match is a must win match. My expectation is just like every other Nigerian. I am expecting nothing but total football from the players. “They should have a recap of their poor display at the last match in Abuja and see how they will improve in Sunday’s match. One thing about them is that they lack continuity and often relent when a goal has been scored. This time around they should score more goals so that it will help them and also differentiate them in case Tunisia draw in their match. Just as it was with the Flying Eagles,†said the former coach of the Harambee Stars of Kenya.
However, for former Eagles player, Ezeugo nothing short of victory, especially playing at home will be acceptable.
“What I’m expecting from them is that they should go all out and be offensive and disorganize the Mozambicans. They are playing at home, this is the more reason they should win. They have no option than to win, anything short of that is unacceptable,†Ezeugo who analyses soccer on Hi-TV said.
