Strike: Go back to negotiation table, Gov Sheriff urges ASUU

MAIDUGURI – The Borno state Governor Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has appealed to the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) to go back to negotiation table with the Federal Government.

Sheriff who was represented by his deputy Alhaji Adamu Shettima Dibal made the appeal when the management team of the University of Maiduguri led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mala Daura paid him a courtesy call at the Government House Maiduguri.

Sheriff said the education sector is too sensitive to be toyed with, and therefore appealed to them to go back to the negotiation table with the Federal Government, so as to resolve this lingering crisis amicably, adding that the youths are the future leaders of tomorrow, and so, toying with their education means endangering the future of the country.

Earlier in his speech, the leader of the delegation Prof. Mala Daura thanked the Borno state government for supporting the activities of the institution, saying that such visit will further cement the relationship that has long  existed between the University and the government.

He also assured the Governor that the University will continue to work hand in hand with  the state government for the betterment of both the institution and the government, and promised to convey the Governor’s message to officials of the union.
