Gani : Ondo declares Monday work-free day

IN honor of the late Social Crusader and Lagos Lawyer Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi, the Ondo State governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko has declared  Monday a work-free day for all workers in the state.

The state government is organising a lying-in state for him at the Akure Sports Stadium  on Monday after which his remains would be taken to his Oka residence in Ondo town same day for final burial on Tuesday.

The work-free day is as part of plan of the state government to give the deceased a befitting burial.

According to the Information Commissioner Ranti Akerele who disclosed this to Vanguard today, explained that the motive behind the holiday is to ample opportunity to all and sundry in the state to pay their last respect to one of their own who is generally regarded as the Senior Advocate of the Masses (SAM)

Akerele appealed to the different segments of the society; including organizations, unions, groups and all other categories of people who are interested in paying their last respect to the deceased to please do so in an orderly manner without violence and confusion.

Meanwhile, all is set for the burial of the social crusader both in his home town and the lying in state ceremony organized to honor him by the state government in Akure, the state capital.

As a mark of honor the governor had pleaded with the family of the deceased that a lying in state be held for him on Monday September 14 a day preceding the burial which is fixed for Tuesday September 15 .

Sources within government hinted that Gani would be immortalized by the state governor Dr Mimiko on Monday when a structure in the state would be named after him.

Akerele who is representing the state government in the burial committee said that the programme of the burial include the arrival of his remains in Akure on Monday.

The Commissioner said on the same day, the body of the legal giant would be lie-in-state at the Sports Stadium Complex, to allow his numerous admirers pay tributes.

According to him, the state government has involved all relevant agencies and private organization towards ensuring a befitting departure for the Lomofe of Ondo Kingdom.

Akerele said after the lying-in-state, late Fawehinmi’s corpse would be convey in a motorcade to his Oka residence in Ondo, while the legal icon would be honoured the subsequent day by his kinsmen [Ekinmoguns] at the civic centre Ondo town.

The programme would be followed by “Janaza” prayer at the Central Mosque Oke-Otunba before his body is committed to mother earth at his residence at Oka in Ondo.

Sympathizers continues to troop to the residence of the deceased lawyer at Oka in Ondo town and that of his father along Okedasa when Sunday Vanguard visited yesterday.
