ASUU Strike: FUTO Governing Council urges work resumption

OWERRI—As the nation’s educational system continues to wither under the lingering  strike action by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other University-based unions in the country, the Governing Council of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has appealed to its workers to resume normal academic and associated activities in the University in the interest of the students and the nation, while continuing negotiation with Federal Government continues to resolve grey areas of contention.

Rising from its extra-ordinary meeting summoned at the instance of the University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr. Vita Abba, the Council deliberated extensively on the current crisis in the University system propelled by the nationwide strike and the obvious retrogressive implications on the nation’s educational system.

The Council further reflected with nostalgia on the critical role of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and contributions of its staff in the training of high level manpower in the engineering, scientific, agricultural, medical and allied professional disciplines for the benefit of the nation.
