PPA threatens to pull out of GNU

Owerri – The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) may pull out of the Government of National Unity over the poor performance of the PDP-led Federal Government, National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chief Ben Onyechere has said.

In a statement in Owerri yesterday, Chief Onyechere said his party’s decision is borne out of the “blatant violation of agreements; non-conforming to the norms of democracy by the Yar’Adua administration; the dwindling fortunes of the economy; the escalated rate of violent crimes and the insecurity pervading the nation”.

Onyechere continued: “Having lured the PPA into the Government of National Unity, the President has altered all ingredients of understanding reached during the unstable period of his government which was on the precipice as a result of the fraudulent election that ushered him to office.

Shortly after attaining partial stability, the president and his advisers embarked on a hide-and-seek game with their partners in the coalition arrangement.

“The same President who needs stability for his government is the one disorganising the opposition by luring Governors to defect with mandates that belong to other parties.

“In a coalition government, ideas and opinions of the partners are meant to be imbibed for the general good of the generality of Nigerians, who are today regretting the inefficiency inflicted on them because of the poor state of economy and security coupled with the obvious nonchalance over the numerous institutions which are on strike, which is now the order of the day.

“The PPA has resolved not to be a party to the gross inefficiency that has engulfed governance at the Federal level because nobody seems to care about the condition of the majority of  Nigerians who are poor,” he said.
