… to build one classroom block per school

By Vincent Ujumadu

Awka -  The Anambra State government is to build one classroom block in every secondary school in the state before the end of the year as part of efforts to improve infrastructure in the education sector, the governor, Mr. Peter Obi has said.

Exchanging views with some leaders of thought in Awka, Obi said the gesture would also be extended to the primary schools.

‘We don’ want to bequeath anarchy to our children. Those who want the state’s money will never get it as long as I’m here,’ Obi vowed.

He said this in Awka yesterday while exchanging views with some stakeholders in the State. He also said that the state was partnering with the federal government to build the biggest rice mill in Ayamelum and that the sum of about N1.5billion had been set aside.

He revealed the recently launched master plan for the cities of Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka would change the state by 2030 if well utilised, just as he announced that the state had recovered N7billion from the federal government through over deductions as a result of money borrowed by previous regimes in the state.

He said such monies were being over deducted  and past regimes never cared. He said he would still continue to demand the reimbursement of such monies.

On the fight against dirt, he said that the state had been given a cheque of N200m by a donor agency that he  pleaded with to assist the state.

While stating that the state did not owe even a kobo to anyone, he urged the people of the state to ask all those warming up for governor what plans they had and how they hoped to raise money for them.

He called on the people of the State to love the State and desist from actions that will hurt it in the name of politics. He assured them that he will continue to lead with the fear of God and respect for humanity.

Speaking, one of the stakeholders, Chief Benjamin Akulukwe thanked the Governor for purposeful leadership and assured him of the continued support of the people of the State. He commended him for not allowing the antics of  some of those that masquerade around as politicians to deter him from the noble cause he is pursuing.
