Forget about regaining power in Edo, LP leader tells PDP

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE vice-chairman (Edo Central) of the Labour Party in Edo state, Comrade Smart Binitie has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, to forget about regaining power in Edo state until the next fifty years.

But spokesman of the PDP in Edo state, Chief Nosa Adams, disagreed with the statement, saying that the PDP is the dominant party in the state and “we will prove it in the 2011 and 2012 National Assembly and Governorship elections in the state. As long as we are concerned, Labour or AC does not exist in Edo state”.

However, Binitie who was reacting to the call for the cancellation of the result of the last weekend House of Assembly re-run election in Akoko Edo, told Vanguard in Benin City that it was laughable that the PDP would be calling for the cancellation of the election which according to him was the freest ever conducted in the state.

He carpeted the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu for describing the election as a show of shame, “when he has been conspiring with the PDP all these years to rig elections, as a result, he has brought our political system to ridicule.

He should be the one to be ashamed of him self because we expected him to commend the conduct of the election rather then criticizing it. It is only when the PDP wins that he believes elections are free and fair.

“It is also surprising that the PDP in the state are crying and calling for cancellation. All these years that they were rigging in the state they took it as a normal thing and because God now removed them from power and brought some body like Oshiomohle to come and sanitize the system they are now crying foul. In fact, the PDP should forget about taking over power in this state for the next fifty years.

“ After Oshiomohle must have spent eight years, another Labour man will take over and it will continue like that. The PDP had the opportunity but they lost it and the people of the state have rejected them. It is time for change and change has come to Edo state. All those who are crying because of the election should go and prepare for 2011 because they are going to loss all the seats” he stated.

Commenting on the agency which would create job for over one thousand youths in the state, Comrade Binitie explained that “my organization is partnering with the National Sports Lottery and we are trying to create over one thousand jobs for youths of our state.

It has nothing to do with political parties, any unemployed youth in the state stands a chance of benefiting from the agency.
