By Ifeyinwa Obi
Thirty newly promoted Customs officers at the Lilypond Containers Terminal Command were recently decorated with their new ranks with a plea from the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Controller Vincent Gbemudu for them to sustain the revenue drive of the Federal Government.

A breakdown of the newly promoted officers showed that 23 of them were promoted to the rank of assistant controller and seven others to deputy controllers.

Gbemudu also cautioned the officers and men of the command not to connive with freight forwarders to defraud the government adding that they should strive to
ensure that correct duties were paid by the customs lincensed agents to the government’s coffers.

Commending the customs authority for promoting the officers, he urged them not to compromise in their revenue generation derive because, according to him,
the Federal Government needs the revenue for a lot of developmental programmes in the country.

“Anybody that connives with fraudsters to defraud the government will be punished adequately. There be accountability and we must strive to serve our father
land diligently,” he said.
