Owerri â€“ At least, 50graduates of tertiary institutions in Imo are benefiting from the N30 million agro micro-credit scheme of the stateâ€™s Acharaubo Graduate Youth Farm Project.
Chief Longers Anyanwu, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Imo, disclosed this on Sunday in Owerri, in an interview with newmen.
He said that beneficiaries would each receive N600,000 worth of agricultural input, to enable them become full-time farmers.
Anyanwu said the youths were undergoing trainings in various aspects of agriculture, including crop production, poultry, piggery and snail farming.
The farm is located at Acharaubo in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner said that more than 2,500 farmers in the state also benefited from other micro-credit schemes, under the National Programme on Food Security.
Anyanwu said that the state government paid N78 million as counterpart fund for the National Programme on Food Security.
He said beneficiaries were drawn from the 250 cooperative societies through which the fund was disbursed.
Anyanwu said the credit facility had positive impact on the people, increasing their produce tremendously in the rural areas.
