UGHELLIâ€”The Special Assistant to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan on Youths Affairs (Delta Central), Mr. Simon Umudi, has called on youths in Delta State and in the Niger Delta to accept the Federal Government proclamation of amnesty in good faith as it will certainly bring about rapid development in the state.
This call was made during a courtesy call of the National Association of Ughelli South Students (NAUSS), on the Special Assistant to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan on Youths Affairs at his office, Asaba, Delta State, recently.
Mr. Umudi thanked the students for the initiative of coming together under one umbrella body, advising them to do away with selfishness in cause of running the affairs of the group and that they should trust each other to enable the group achieve its set objectives.
According to him, â€œas a student body, you all should work from the top to the bottom in order for the body to benefit from Delta State numerous programmes, like micro credit scheme, aimed at developing and realizing the dreams of the youths.
The body should come up with practicable modalities that can help them to achieve their objectives by carrying out enlightenment programmes on the need for the youths to be educated”, he stressed.
Speaking further, Umudi encouraged the youths to shun restiveness, violence, militancy, hostage taking and every other criminative acts and embrace dialogue in handling their issues, adding that the group should serve as a medium for rendering positive information on how to achieve total peace in the state in relation to the numerous programmes of the state government to positively touch the lives of the youths in the state.
He also called on militants in Delta state and Niger Delta at large to accept the Mr. Presidentâ€™s amnesty to all militants and freedom fighters in the region, emphasizing that, the amnesty is one of the greatest achievements in the Yarâ€™Adua led government.
Earlier in his speech, national president of the studentsâ€™ body, Comrade Solomon Ogoron, said, NAUSS is made up of intellectuals who have identified with the state government with the sole objective of moving the local and state government forward in line with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghanâ€™s three point agenda.
