Osotimehin lauds NMA over suspended strike

LAGOS — Following the decision of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to shelve its strike that was suppose to begin today, the Minister of Health, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, has extended his hands of fellowship to the Association and other professionals within the health sector, describing the decision of the doctors as “patriotic.”

Osotimehin said given the sensitive nature of the industry and the severe consequences of a strike action on the vast majority of Nigerians, we cannot but give it to them that they have done well.

The minister volunteered the cooperation of government with in all things, adding that we will do our best to ensure that the commitment that the government has made at the highest level is brought to practical reality.

He expressed optimism that the doctors will never have cause to go on strike on this issue again because all that is necessary to be done would have been done.
