Jos — 15 Batch ‘B’ Corps members deployed to Plateau State for 2008/2009 are to get their national service year extended for absconding from the service.
The NYSC Co-ordinator in the state, Mr Peter Atilola, said, yesterday in Jos, that the affected corps members would not pass out on Tuesday.
He said, “15 Corps members will have their national service year extended. Most of the cases are outright absconding from the one-year mandatory national service.
“Their names will be forwarded to the National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, for appropriate action. It is the headquarters that will determine the states they will be redeployed to serve the extension.â€
He said the national service was compulsory for every Nigerian graduate who has not attained 30 years of age, to serve the nation outside their states of origin.
According to him, graduates who are 30 years and above are exempted from the service and usually awarded the Directorate’s Letter of Exemption. The NYSC Co-ordinator noted that, people who have genuine cases such as marital or health issues could be redeployed.
