Students donate public toilet to community

By Tare Youdeowei

STUDENTS of Corona Secondary School, Agbara, Ogun State, have donated a unit of four public toilets to Agbara market in a bid to improve the sanitation and economy of Agbara market.

The students, who are members of Unveiling Africa and Gavel Clubs of the school, under the coordination of Ms. Mercy Onwunta and Mr. Chidi Nnorom, handed over the facility to the Alagbara of Agbara Land, HRM Lukman Agunbiade, Olute III and the Iya Oja of Agbara Market, Mrs. Rafatu Musiliu, in the presence of several chiefs and members of the community.

Ms. Mercy Onwunta, one of the club coordinators, in relaying the message of the school said; “Corona School, as part of its corporate social responsibility, in conjunction with some students in Unveiling Africa and Gavel Clubs, which are youth empowerment clubs, contributed their monies to eventually build the public convenience being handed over today. Corona School has been in Agbara for about 20 years and what we are doing is our way of giving back to the community that has hosted us for this long. It is indeed our great pleasure.”

Accepting the donation, Oba Agunbiade stated that “I am exceedingly happy to commission this gift to Agbara. The reason is that this is the first corporate body to perform a commendable CSR since I ascended the throne. We paid courtesy call to all corporate bodies and we charged them to fulfil their CSR.

Corona is the first to respond. This is a lesson to other corporate bodies in Agbara. I beseech other corporate bodies and private establishments to borrow a leaf from Corona. I thank the principal, club coordinators, staff and students for this gift. I can only ask for more. Agbara Grammer School and Primary School are waiting for adoption.”

In her speech, Iya Oja of Agbara Market, Mrs. Rafatu Musiliu, who could not hide her joy, thanked Corona School and the students; “Thank you so very much for rising to the occasion of providing this facility. I thank the king for providing the privilege for this to happen. We have had the incessant challenge of people defecating everywhere because there was no toilet in the market, now we have one, all that will stop.”

Chairman, Agbara Local Council Development Area, Hon. Oniyide Olaoluwa, was also present at the handing over, and he expressed gratitude thus; “Corona Secondary School has done a very nice thing for the community. This is a very laudable feat. Their impact is greatly felt because they have touched lives. I pray God enriches them to do more. I am still expecting them to do more.”
