Fresh crisis looms in Bayelsa PDP over alleged substitution plot

By Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa—The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State may be heading for fresh crisis following alleged plot by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, to substitute the party’s Bayelsa West senatorial district’s candidate, Foster Ogola with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

The plot to replace Ogola with the incumbent Senator Lokpobiri, the First Lady’s alleged candidate, it was learned, has reached an advance stage.

Lokpobiri lost out in the primary election of the party at Sagbama, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, where Ogola was declared winner.

But the ticket was contested by Lokpobiri after winning a parallel primary election, the result of which was rejected by the national leadership of the party.

It was learned that Mu’azu had been drafted into the First Lady’s scheme to seek alternative ways of replacing Ogola with Lokpobiri.

A party source who spoke on condition of anonymity said “very soon” Mu’azu will, through the PDP, file a suit at the Federal High Court to that effect.

He said lawyers attached to the PDP were already working on the legal documents and will soon institute a case at the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa to reclaim the party’s ticket from Ogola.

Among other things, he said the substitution case will argue that Ogola’s name was sent to INEC in error.
