Stakeholders intensify efforts to boost insurance awareness

In recent times, stakeholders in the insurance industry have taken various steps to enlighten the public on the workings and benefits of insurance.

It is in line with such initiatives that Miss Funmilola Ogunshola, Miss Insurance 2014, concluded her two-month long project for secondary school students tagged ‘Teens for Insurance.’

The project aimed at sensitizing the younger generation on the needs and benefits of insurance, kicked off with an online essay competition titled: “The Significant role of Insurance to the development of an Economy”, of which Miss Deborah Faboyede was announced winner, with the cash prize of N250,000.

The grand finale was hosted by Nollywood actor, Femi Branch with various activities such as inter-school quiz competition, talent acquisition, games, musical performances etc.

According to Ogunshola

According to Ogunshola, “This has been a very awesome experience for me. The ‘Teens for Insurance’ project was out of desire to reach this younger ones and I must say I feel very glad with the results recorded.

The entries for the essay competition were mind-blowing, so much that it was really difficult for my team to decide an eventual winner. I really hope that parents embrace the benefits of insurance and secure these kids future as soon as they can”, she said.

Albesta Academy, Lekki came tops in the quiz competition with a cash prize and LG refrigerator while Ansar-ud-deen College, Isolo and NewHall International School, Eti-Osa came 2nd with a cash prize and LG plasma TV and 3rd with a cash prize and LG Microwave Oven, respectively.

Guests present at the event include, Head, Corporate Affairs/Admin and HR, Joseph Obah representing the Director General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN); Head, Corporate Communications and Brand Management, Sovereign Trust, Segun Bankole; Head Corporate Marketing, UNIC Insurance, Femi Inubile, Parents of Miss insurance, Mr and Mrs Ogunshola, Representatives from CIIN, AIICO, Guinea Insurance, Sterling Assurance, parents and teachers.

‘Teens for Insurance’ project partners include, the National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, Chattered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Staco Insurance, Mansard Insurance, AIICO, Sterling Assurance, NEM, Guinea Insurance and Sovereign Trust.
