Hon. Gaiya
Chairman of the House committee on sports, Hon Godfrey Gaiya has expressed joy over the qualification of Nigeria’s D’Tigers for the basketball event of the London 2012 Olympics.
Gaiya who spoke yesterday said Tigers’ qualification was a pointer to what the country is set to do at the world’s biggest sporting fiesta which kicks off July 27.
“Nobody gave the Nigerian basketball team a chance, but they rubbished the prediction of pundits to qualify in grand style. I expect more of such upsets from our athletes in the Games proper,” Gaiya said.
The Kaduna state lawmaker was equally full of praise for the National Sports Commission (NSC), declaring that the commission has prepared well for the London Games.
“I think the NSC and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) have worked hard ahead of the Olympics. I am confident the country will do well in London,” he said.
