By  DAUD  OLATUNJI, Abeokuta
Barely two weeks after  some security gadgets were commissioned  by Inspector General of police, Alhaji  Moham-med Abubakar in Ogun state, robbers  stormed the office of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service and carted away N20 million .

Saturday Vanguard learnt  that, the incident occurred  in the early  hours of  yesterday , exactly 2 a.m.  when   unknown persons   were said to have broken through the windows of the Parastatal Building headquarters of the Ogun IRS .

A source  hinted  Saturday Vanguard that, the robbers  who  were about five , broke  the vaults of the IRS  before  they took away the whopping  cash from the  burgled IRS building which  is about 100 metres away from the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan and also shared offices with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The source within the IRS who  did not want his  name in print confirmed  the incident ,claiming  that the burgled vault contained not less than N20million and expressed surprise  why the burglary occurred when the IRS had such a huge amount in its vault.

When contacted, the Ogun State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi  confirmed the incident, saying that, the police had already arrested the night guards who were on duty when the burglary occurred, adding that the arrested guards were  being interrogated.

He said “It is true that some people burgled into the IRS office and carted away some amount of money. We have already swung into action. We have with us the guards who were supposed to be on duty that night. We are questioning and investigating them.
“We cannot confirm the amount of cash stolen from the IRS office but by the time the complainant finish writing his statement, we’ll be able to ascertain the exact amount and deduce some other helpful
information.

“It’s interesting that the office was burgled and the guards on duty were neither attacked nor tied down by the burglers. We’ll get to the root of the incident and all the culprits will be brought to book.”
