Ndanusa, Popoola mourn Falcons Olympic ouster

Chieftains of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, are yet to come to terms with the loss of the Super Falcons to Cameroun at the weekend.

The defeat means that Nigeria would not play in the women Olympic soccer event next year.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroun clawed the Falcons out of the Olympics as they joined the Banyana Banyana of South Africa as Africa’s representatives at the Olympics.

“It is sad and very painful to know that the Falcons will not be at the Olympics after being at the zenith of female football in the continent”, NOC President, Engineer Sani Ndanusa mourned.

“It did not come to me as a surprise after they failed to qualify for the All Africa Games in Maputo. If you remember, Cameroun won the soccer event of the All Africa Games. It is shameful that a country that has won more laurels in African women football is now playing second fiddle. I am pained that Nigeria has missed an opportunity of at least hoisting our flag at the women soccer event of the Olympics”, Secretary-General of the NOC, Honourable Tunde Popoola said.

The only other hope of Nigeria playing in the soccer event of the Olympics rests on the shoulders of Austin Eguaveon’s U-23 who would partake in the play-off next month in Morocco .
