The Federal Government said, yesterday, that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, and his Eduction counterpart, Mallam Adamu Adamu, will continue to lead its negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) whose members are on strike, contrary to the insinuation that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had taken over the leadership of the government team.

Amid hopes that the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) teams will meet this week to try to resolve the issues that led to the strike by university lecturers across the country, ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, says the implementation of seven issues with timelines was crucial to the resolution of the dispute.

University students across the country, whose lecturers are on strike to press government to meet their demands, are facing the reality that they may have to stay longer at home than they had envisaged.

As there appears to be confusion over the Federal Government team negotiating with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has dispelled the rumour of uncertainty surrounding early resolution of the face-off between the university teachers and Federal Government.

THE Deputy Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque,   Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam yesterday pleaded with the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the main umbrella body of University lecturers in the country to arrive at a common ground and call off the strike in the interest of the students.
